Upcycled Canadian black bear purified oil?

PURIFIED & UPCYCLED QUEBEC BLACK BEAR OIL

Ancestral Use

Historically, black bear fat was valued for its traditional uses related to skin care. Its naturally rich composition in omega-6, omega-9, and palmitic acid helps hydrate, soothe, and support the skin’s balance — a unique synergy of benefits offered naturally, with no equivalent in the skincare world.

Did you know that during hibernation, this fat is essential for the black bear: it allows it to maintain its energy, vitality and muscle mass without eating for several months!

Why is sport hunting for black bears legal in Canada?

Sport hunting of black bears is legal in all Canadian provinces. Banning it would risk causing an overpopulation of black bears, creating a food shortage and forcing bears to leave their natural habitat and approach inhabited areas, which would harm their survival and their coexistence with humans. Black bear hunting has been strictly regulated for several decades. Hunters must hold a special permit and can only hunt in designated areas. Although black bears are not endangered, this regulation helps maintain a healthy population.

Le Nordet, in complete transparency

At Le Nordet, we are committed to explaining our approach with sincerity and integrity.

It’s important to understand that black bear hunting exists independently of our company. We only intervene after the hunting season and have no impact on it.

Following the season, bear fat is rarely kept by hunters. Rather than letting this natural element go to waste, we choose to recover it from a local tannery, where it is then purified and transformed into a high-quality oil naturally rich in omega-6, omega-9, and palmitic acid. This oil is then incorporated into our formulations to help nourish the skin, maintain hydration, and support a radiant complexion.

Our approach is rooted in a circular economy and upcycling mindset: giving new life to a local natural element that would otherwise be discarded.

Is the black bear an endangered species in Canada?

The black bear has been designated in the "not at risk" category by the Committee on the Status of Endangered Wildlife in Canada (COSEWIC).
